Describe the effects of the  following on the human body:

Digestive System

1)        Acid concentration in stomach is below normal             Or There is less acid in the stomach

Or  pH of gastric juice does not go down below 3                Or HCl is not released in stomach

If there is less acid in the stomach, or if the pH of gastric juices does not go below pH=3, pepsin will not be able to do its job, and so proteins will not be digested properly.  This will lead to the appearance of UDF (UnDigested Food) in stools.  Because proteins are the raw material of many of the body enzymes and hormones, so they will not be formed properly.  This is the root cause for many major diseases.  Due to less acid in the stomach, bacteria or viruses present in the food will not be killed and will reach the intestine, leading to bouts of infectious diseases.     (For pH chart : ref Taber’s 18th edn.p 2233)

Another problem is as follows :  The same cells which produce HCl in the stomach, also produce intrinsic factor;  so lack of HCl will also mean that, intrinsic factor too will not be formed in correct quantities.  This will lead to vitamin B12 deficiency.  Common symptoms are : blackness in phalanges of fingers, nervous weakness, drooping of legs in paralytics and numbness in the legs after sitting for some time, etc.

2) Function of HCl in digestion – HCl has two important functions in the body.  The first is to raise the pH of the stomach to 3 or less than 3.  Only then pepsin will be formed in the stomach, in the absence of which proper digestion of proteins will not take place.  The second function of HCl is to destroy harmful bacteria present in food so that they do not reach the blood through the intestinal villi. Write the rest from above para.

3) Poor Oral Hygiene – Means not washing the mouth properly.  If the mouth is not cleansed properly after every meal, it will cause diseases of teeth and gums, such as cavities in teeth, pyorrhea ( pus, bleeding and swelling in gums), halitosis ( bad odor in breath). Note that the root cause of these problems is poor digestion - indicated by the appearance of UDF in stools.

4) Vater is closed / obstructed or vater does not open – If the ampoulla of vater is blocked, bile and the pancreatic digestive enzymes will not reach the duodenum, leading to poor digestion of both proteins and fats.  Symptoms are : indigestion, burning sensation in chest, belching with sour taste and UDF (which is the root cause for all major diseases).  One of the main reasons is: the formation of gallstones.  When gall stones come out into the common bile duct, they may block the ampoulla, which eventually may lead to pancreatitis.

5)        A stone is formed in the gall bladder –This often shows up as pain below the ribs on the right side of the body.  Pain starts from right side ribs on the front side and, as the disease progresses the pain is felt upto the portion of the back.  In some people this stone may cause an obstruction or blockage in the ampoulla of vater, which may later lead to pancreatitis.  See number four above.

6) Frequent vomiting –  Vomiting is an indication that some such item has reached the stomach or duodenum, which will harm the body.  And the body resorts to vomiting as a self-protective measure.  But when there is too much or too frequent vomiting, it is a hyper-active reaction, which eventually is harmful, because it leads to dehydration due to loss of fluids.  This will cause acid-alkali imbalance causing body pains.  Loss of essential salts such as sodium, potassium or calcium will cause cramps and weakness.

Vomiting may be due to many causes :

If it is due to food poisoning, give (15) Medulla for acetyl choline.

Severe vomiting (and diarrhea) may cause reduced cardiac output (due to reduced venous return) which is one of the reasons for the condition known as hypovolemic shock.

(R & W 9th : p111)

7) Intrinsic factor is absent –Intrinsic factor is essential for protecting vitamin B12 from being destroyed by the action of digestive juices till it reaches the ileum.  In absence of intrinsic factor, vitamin B12 cannot be absorbed in the body.  Vitamin B12 is essential for maturation of RBC’s.  In the absence of B12, RBC’s cannot mature properly and the person will suffer from a type of anemia called as pernicious anemia.  Major symptoms are : black lines in the tongue, black patches on the phalanges of the fingers of the hands / toes, Numbness or pricking sensation in the legs while squatting, nervous disorders, weakness of eyesight etc.

Chronic deficiency of Vitamin B12  for several years, causes de-myelination of the nerve fibres of the spinal chord, phc;n _ c'hr' pr y; h;q{. pr k;l;pn :

8)        Fibre is not included in the diet (Low fiber diet is eaten) –Not eating foods containing fibre will cause inadequate bowel movement and constipation which later develops into either piles, fistula, fibroids, or prolapse of the rectum. If this situation persists for several years, it may aggravate factors leading to paralysis or Parkinson’s disease.

( It has been observed in quite a few LMNT centres in Chennai and other places of South India, that almost all patients of paralysis and Parkinson’s have a history of constipation and they confirm that their diet does not include fibre. (R&W page 279)

9)     Tongue shows a white coating _This means that there is a similar coating on the walls of the intestine, causing imperfect secretion of digestive juices from the intestinal walls, leading to poor digestion and absorption. Such patients usually have pain in ‘Gas’ and may have flatulence or belching with sour taste. When this continues for a long period, the person will have undigested food in stools (UDF), which is the root cause for chronic disorders.

10)  Salivary glands do not function- So ptyalin will not be secreted;  so there will be poor digestion of carbohydrates in the mouth, which means the entire load of digesting carbohydrates will fall on the pancreas.  Secondly, there will be difficulty in swallowing and so the person will take frequent sips of water to down the food.  This will cause dilution of the stomach acid, causing poor digestion of proteins in the stomach, leading to UDF, which is the fore-runner of chronic diseases.

11)  Maida (refined flour) and sugar are included in the diet  -  Maida is extremely fine flour with no fibre content.  Hence eating maida products will cause constipation due to lack of dietary fibre.  Another quality of maida is stickiness.  When it forms chime, a fine paste of maida will stick to the inner walls of the stomach and intestine, preventing secretion of gastric juices, leading to indigestion, acidity etc.

Eating sugar in large quantities causes teeth decay. It may also cause diabetes later on.

12)  Secretin is not released _ The pancreas will not receive the message for release of sodium bicarbonate, whose main job is to neutralize the acidic chyme and to bring pH to 7.8 - which is the optimum pH for proper functioning of the pancreatic digestive enzymes.  If these enzymes are unable to function properly, the person will experience heaviness in abdomen, due to improper digestion of food, leading to UDF, which is the main cause for all chronic disorders.  If acidic chyme is not neutralized, the person may develop duodenal ulcers.

13)  Nabhi is displaced _ The nabhi is the centre of the body.  The abdominal organs have a specific location which is related to their distance from the navel.  Displacement of the navel indicates that the position of some part of those organs has changed, though very slightly.  It is the unique finding of Guruji, backed by knowledge from traditional books, that this is the primary cause which later leads to indigestion, gas, flatulence and digestive disorders, and sets the stage for chronic diseases later on.

Endocrine System

1) Thyroid is hypo – The thyroid gland is responsible for the development of the brain of the fetus until one year after birth.  If the gland is hypo right from childhood, then such a child may be mentally retarded and he may have severe & chronic constipation.

Other symptoms of hypo-thyroidism are:-

Puffiness and swelling below the eyelids especially after getting up from sleep,

eye weakness, sty in the eyes and other eye disorders,

heavy bleeding in menses,      obesity,     increase in cholesterol or triglycerides,

dandruff, dry or wrinkled skin, cold hands and feet,      and

atherosclerosis which is the root cause for Diabetes, kidney and heart disorders. Hypothyroidism in women during pregnancy can cause her to give birth to a child with mental retardation.

2) Thyroid is hyper - If the thyroid gland is hyper i.e., it works more than normal, the patient will always have a ravenous appetite. Inspite of eating heavily, he will be rake-thin, with frequent loose motions, tremors in the hands, fingers or feet indicating nervousness. The pulse and metabolic rate will always be high, due to which his body will always be hot.  The heart rate and cardiac output will be extremely high, due to which such persons die at a relatively young age.

An enlargement in the thyroid gland is called as goiter. In some persons this is accompanied by a protrusion of the eyeballs, which is called as exophthalmic goiter. When a person has several of the above symptoms simultaneously, it is called as Grave’s disease, which is considered to be an auto immune disorder.

3) Pituitary is hypo – If the anterior pituitary is hypo

ØThe anterior pituitary produces 6 hormones.  Depending upon which hormone(s) is(are) deficient, they manifest as different symptoms, for which the diseases are given different names.

Ø In some people, there is a sudden fall in systemic BP, due to which there is a deficiency of the stimulating hormones of the thyroid, the adrenal cortex and the gonads (the reproductive organs).  This is known as Simmond’s disease.  In such people, a deficiency of gluco-corticoids may be fatal. When this condition is associated with severe hemorrhage during or after childbirth, it causes lack of breast milk in  females after pregnancy - due to deficiency of gonadotrophic hormones i.e., FSH & LH.

Ø If there is deficiency of GH and several other hormones, it is known as pituitary dwarfism.  Such children are well-proportioned and intelligent, but of small stature.  Puberty is delayed and some children may have hypoglycemia (less sugar in the blood).

ØIf there is a deficiency of GH, FSH & LH it is called as Frohlich’s syndrome.  There is diminished growth, lack of sexual development, retarded mental development and obesity with female distribution of fat.

ØIf posterior pituitary is hypo, it may cause Diabetes Insipidus due to vasopressin deficiency. The person has low BP and may drink upto 15-20 litres of water daily , which is followed by very frequent passage of dilute, tasteless urine.

4) Pituitary is hyper – If there is over-secretion of Growth hormone (GH), it causes excessive growth of bones, enlargement of internal organs including the heart, high BP and a predisposition to Diabetes Mellitus.

If this happens in childhood, before the fusion of the epiphyseal cartilages of the long bones, it causes an increase in height, which is called gigantism, although the body proportions remain normal. If it happens in adulthood, it is called acromegaly, which causes thickening of the bones and soft tissues.  This causes the person to have coarse facial features and skin, an enlarged tongue and excessively large hands and feet.

If there is over-secretion of prolactin, it causes secretion of milk from the breasts in both sexes. It also causes amenorrhea (lack of menses) and sterility in women, and impotence (lack of interest in sex) in men.

5) Calcium deficiency in blood   _ Low levels of blood calcium cause twitching in the muscles of hands and legs, followed by frequent cramps.  Calcium is an important clotting factor.  Hence calcium-deficiency will lead to excess bleeding of wounds and during menses, in women. Low blood levels of ionized calcium causes tetany. There are very strong painful spasms of skeletal muscles, causing characteristic bending inwards of the hands, forearms and feet. In children there may be myoclonic jerks, spasms and convulsions.  (Myoclonus = twitching or spasm of a group of muscles).

Calcium-deficiency is one of the reasons for seizures or fits in children.  Diseases of the tooth may increase, because calcium is necessary for healthy teeth and bones.

( In the initial stages, PTH (parat hormone ) will endeavour to tide over this situation by instructing osteoclasts to mobilize calcium from the bones and put it into the blood.  But if this situation persists for a long period, it will cause osteoporosis in which the bones become hollow and so weak that even the slightest blow may cause them to fracture.   Consumption of steroids given for other diseases is one of the reasons for osteoporosis).

6) Parathyroid is hypo _ it will cause blood calcium to become low. Initially the person may sufer from frequent cramps.  But if the situation persists for a number of years, it will lead to osteoporosis. (See above answer )

7) Prolonged consumption of Cortisone - or other steroid drugs, is one of the main reasons for osteoporosis.  This is a side effect in which the bones become hollow and so weak that even the slightest blow may cause them to fracture. Prolonged use of prednisolone may result in Cushing’s syndrome. (RW 9th.ed. p232)

(Steroid withdrawal syndrome :Tbr 18th edn.p1832 _ If steroids are discontinued after prolonged period of use, it leads to ‘adrenal insufficiency’ in several patients. In these patients, the functioning of the adrenal glands has been suppressed to such an extent that they are unable to provide appropriate response when the patient has to face a stressful situation such as a serious infection, injury or an accident.)

8) Deficiency of Vitamin D- affects the absorption of of calcium and phosphate from the intestine, resulting in shortage or loss of calcium salts, causing bones to become soft, brittle and abnormal, thus causing deformities. If this happens in childhood it is called as rickets. Teething is delayed, the head is large and square-shaped, and the bones of the skull are so thin that they crackle like parchment. The sternum or chest bone is prominent; and in some people the chest bone forms a cavity or depression, called as pigeonchest. The bones of the legs are curved and prominent at their extremitites, which is known as bow legs. (Taber’s 18th edn.p 1688).

Rickets in adults is known as osteo-malacia. Such people have progressive weakness and anemia, in addition to rheumatic pains in the limbs, spine, thorax and pelvis.

(Taber’s18th. p.1367)

9)     Parathyroid is hyper – There will be excess PTH in blood, due to which osteoblasts will remove calcium from bones  and will put them into the blood. So the bones will become porous and will break easily. Muscles become weak and bones will become soft.  The level of phosphorus in blood will go down and calcium level will go up, which is called as hyper calcemia.  This can be found out from blood tests.

Symptoms : Constipation, lack of appetite, nausea, lethargy, vomiting, excess urination, mental ups and downs of mood etc.  Excess calcium level for a number of years can cause formation of kidney stones or frequent blood clots.

10)  Calcium level increases in blood _ this is known as hyper-calcemia.  This may happen due to prolonged consumption of antacids containing calcium or, in rare cases,  when PTH becomes hyper.  This causes cardiac arrhythmia, which may eventually lead to cardiac arrest. Other symptoms : decreased respirations, lethargy progressing to coma, profound muscle weakness, renal calculi (kidney stones of calcium oxalate)  lack of hunger, nausea, constipation etc.

11)  Excessive sodium deficiency ( Salt intake is low in a low blood pressure patient) _ Sodium is necessary for contraction of muscles, transmission of nerve impulses along axons and maintenance of electrolyte balance in the body.  Sodium deficiency causes cramps, heaviness in the abdomen, tightness in muscles, dehydration, and low BP. (Taber’s 18th edn.p 1782 : Its presence in body fluids helps retain water and prevent dehydration.  Deficiency symptoms include weakness, nerve disorders, loss of weight and disturbed digestion.)

In Addison’s disease there is an increase in sodium excretion, with a corresponding decrease in potassium excretion.  The patient feels weak, tired and dizzy when getting up from a sitting or lying position.  The skin becomes dark in exposed areas, such as the area between the blouse line and the waist, in Indian women.

(Guyton 10th ed. p743) :  Sodium ions are necessary for production of HCl in stomach.  (Guyton 10th ed. p.872): Increase in blood potassium causes reduction in cardiac output which may be fatal.

(Sodium is necessary for maintaining fluid balance and to protect against dehydration. Because of its influence over calcium and potassium levels, sodium is necessary for transmission of nerve impulses and for proper contraction of cardiac and other muscles.  Sodium deficiency causes reduction in both ECF volume as well as blood volume, with consequent lowering of blood pressure.)

12)  Too much water is lost from body _ Also known as dehydration, this may be due to vomiting, loose motions or excessive sweat.  This is normally accompanied by loss of sodium among other salts, resulting in low BP and cramps. Dehydration is one of the reasons for renal calculi (kidney stones) in the future - (RW p.355).  Water is essential for all metabolic processes. Loss of water initially will result in acidosis, causing burning sensation in urine, constipation.  When dehydration persists for long periods of time, it will result in metabolic disorders and may be fatal in children.

13) Sodium level increases in blood_ The normal level of sodium in blood is 135 – 145 mEq/L.  An increase of sodium level is called as hyper natremia.  This leads to high BP, decreased level of consciousness, low urine output, twitching of muscles,  paralysis, decreased cardiac output etc. (Taber’s 18th edn.p1782)

14) Adrenal becomes hyper -     The adrenal gland has two parts – the adrenal cortex and the adrenal medulla.  Hyperactivity of the adrenal cortex results in over-secretion of either aldosterone or of cortisol. Rarely it may result in an increase of androgens.

Hyper-secretion of cortisol causes Cushing’s Syndrome.  Some symptoms are : High BP, Diabetes Mellitus, depressed thymus function, menstrual disturbances, insomnia, formation of kidney stones or peptic ulcers.

Hyper secretion of aldosterone disturbs the functioning of the kidneys, causing increased blood volume, hypertension, hypokalemia (low level of potassium in blood) which in turn causes alkalosis, fainting and muscle weakness.

Hyper secretion of androgens causes increase of male sexual characteristics.  See below.

Hyperactivity of adrenal medulla causes high BP due to increase in epinephrine and norepinephrine.  Epinephrine raises systolic BP, while norepinephrine causes and increase in both systolic and diastolic BP.  Other symptoms are: hyper-glycemia (Diabetes Mellitus), glycosuria (sugar in urine), increased sweating and increased metabolic rate.  High BP in turn, may lead to atherosclerosis and cerebral hemorrhage.

15)  Adrenal produces high levels of androgens _ (Taber’s 18th edn.p 43): When androgens are increased, male sex characteristics are accentuated.  In women this results in develop male features and characteristics, such as voice change, growth of hair in unwanted places, and pronounced muscular development. If this happens in childhood, it may cause boys to have disproportionately large sex organs.  This is known as adrenogenital syndrome. Baldness and acne may develop in both sexes.

16)  If the adrenal cortex is stimulated -

The adrenal cortex produces three classes of hormones – glucocorticosteroids such as cortisol; mineralocorticoids such as aldosterone; and androgens. Different stimulations of the Adrenal cortex by LMNT produce different effects in the body.

(6) Adr stimulates cortisol which helps reduce inflammation anywhere in the body, especially in the intestines. It is used to cure polio, inflammatory diseases and auto immune disorders.

(2) Adr stimulates aldosterone and helps maintain the balance of salt and water in the body.  In LMNT we use (2) Adr to increase sodium level in the body.

17)  Adrenal becomes hypo – If adrenal cortex becomes hypo, it Addison’s disease.

Major symptoms are : Low BP, anemia, weakness, loss of weight, vomiting or loose motions, black patches in the skin. (Refer No.11)

18)  Potassium level goes down in blood_ leads to muscle weakness, dizziness, thirst and mental confusion, and changes in ECG.  { Potassium is the principal component of intra-cellular fluid (ICF). It is of importance in maintenance of hemostasis (an arrest of bleeding or of circulation). It regulates osmotic pressure and acid-base balance.

A proper balance of potassium, calcium and sodium is essential for normal excitability of muscle tissue. (Taber 18th ed.p1537 & 882){Potassium is necessary for the following : contraction of muscles, especially of heart muscle; to maintain proper electrolyte balance; and for proper transmission of nerve impulses.}

19)  Somatostatin is not produced in sufficient quantities _ could cause an increase of fibroids, lipoma, cysts, tumours or cancerous growths.  Or else this may cause hyperactivity of any gland, leading to associated diseases and symptoms.

20) Alkaline phosphatase increases in blood _ Alkaline phosphatase is compound which is present teeth, developing bone , plasma, kidney and intestine.  It functions in the minera-lization process of bone.  It is excreted by the liver. The level of alkaline phosphatase increases during pregnancy, in obstructive jaundice and in diseases of the pancreas, bones and lungs.  Its level is also elevated in some malignancies without metastases. (Taber’s 18th edn.p 1469).

In LMNT, Guruji has observed that in almost all cancer patients, the level of serum alkaline phosphatase increases more than normal.  This means that an increase in its level is indicative of cancer. ( Normal range 13-39 U/l; infants and adolescents upto 104 U/L – Taber’s 18th edn.p 2201).

[ Metastasis = movement of cancer cells from one part of the body to another. ]

21)  Insulin is not synthesized in the body – This happens only in childhood, which is known as Type I diabetes or juvenile diabetes.  Delayed wound healing, perpetual hunger in spite of eating food, low body weight, chronic fatigue, frequent urination and excessive thirst are some of the symptoms. (See answer below)

22)  Sugar level increases in the blood – This is the main indication of Diabetes Mellitus. Other symptoms are frequent urination, upto 3 - 5 litres daily.  This necessitates that the person has to get up often at night to relieve his bowels.  There is delayed wound healing.  A common symptom is numbness in the legs and toes while walking, which makes them feel that they are walking on mud or marshy ground all the time.

Some people experience frequent hunger, but no increase in body weight, some may experience tiredness or fatigue even after slight work.  In chronic or severe cases it leads to disorders of the retina (diabetic retinopathy), or kidney disorders.

23)  Sugar is not taken when the patient’s blood is hypoglycemic – Lack of glucose to brain cells can cause the patient to go into coma and death even.  The immediate LMNT treatment for such persons is I (4) Pan  (for glucagon)  II  (4) Pit. ( ‘glycemia’ means related to blood sugar; hypo means low level;  hypoglycemia means low blood sugar)

24)  ADH is not released – causes excess of very dilute urine and highly excessive thirst and is known as Diabetes Insipidus.  Other symptoms  are :Low BP, fatigue,  dry skin, dizziness, weakness etc. ( These symptoms are perhaps the reason why drunkards just lie down on the way, because alcohol  inhibits the production of ADH.)

25) There is a tumor in the lymph gland -  this will cause hyperactivity of lymphocytes, which may lead to formation of abnormal antibodies.  Such tumors may eventually become cancerous and spread through the lymph to any part of the body.

Heart, Blood and Circulatory System

1)     Thrombus is moving in coronary artery (Clot in the coronary artery) - When a blood clot is formed elsewhere in the body and reaches the heart through the circulation, it is called a thrombus. When a thrombus blocks the coronary artery, it will cause insufficient supply of blood to the heart muscle.  The earliest symptom of this is: breathlessness while walking, climbing steps, or while lifting heavy loads etc. If this situation persists for a long time it will cause chest pain called angina, which in later stages will lead to IHD (Ischemic heart disease) or MI (Myocardial infarction).  This later leads to heart failure, also known as cardiac arrest or heart attack.

2)      Hb level goes down in blood (Haemoglobin  count is low ) –

Low levels of Hb in blood can be due to low levels of iron, folic acid, or vitamin B12.  Primarily the person experiences breathlessness.  Other symptoms will depend upon the cause, as explained below :-

If it is due to Iron deficiency or RBC deficiency  – There will not be enough hemoglobin available to carry sufficient oxygen from the lungs to supply the needs of the tissues.  This leads to iron-deficiency anemia (deficiency of blood). If there is excessive flow during menses, or due to increased requirements of iron during pregnancy for both mother and child, this may cause Hb levels to go down to 9 or even lower.  The patient experiences breathlessness, fatigue and palpitations.  If a woman has Hb less than 10 for several years, it may cause her to give birth to children with congenital disorders such as Major or Minor Thalassemia.

If it is due to deficiency of folic acid during pregnancy - Folic acid is essential for maturation of RBC’s; and its deficiency causes megaloblastic anemia.  If the mother has folic acid deficiency during pregnancy, the child may have one of the following disorders _ hole in the heart, spina bifida, meningomyelocele, cleft lip, cleft palate etc. If not treated through LMNT, the children with folic acid deficiency complain of back pains in later years.  If due to anemia, the Hb of the mother is 10 or lower, it can cause the child to be born with any one of congenital anemic disorders known as ‘thalessemias’.

If Intrinsic factor is absent – then vitamin B12 cannot be absorbed in the body, because intrinsic factor is essential for protecting vitamin B12 from being destroyed by the action of digestive juices till it reaches the ileum.  In absence of vitamin B12, a person suffers from an anemia called as ‘pernicious anemia’. Major symptoms are : black lines in the tongue, black patches on the phalanges of the fingers of the hands / toes, Numbness or pricking sensation  in the legs while squatting, nervous disorders, poor eyesight etc.

Chronic deficiency of Vitamin B12  for several years, causes de-myelination of the nerve fibres of the spinal chord, phc;n _ c'hr' pr y; h;q{. pr k;l;pn :

3)     Excess iron in the blood _ is known as hemo-chromatosis. Symptoms are: pains in muscles, weakness, weight loss, abdominal pain, palpitations, impotence in males, enlarged liver, liver cirrhosis, congestive heart failure, testicular failure, gray or bronzed skin.    ( Taber’s 18th edn.p 870).

Patients of thalessemia have low hemoglobin and have to be given blood transfusions periodically.  In all persons, after 120 days, old RBC’s are destroyed.  But in patients of thalessemia, since their Hb (hemoglobin) is low, they cannot use up all the iron of the dead RBC’s and the excess iron is stored in the body as ferrritin.  This too may be one of the causes of excess iron in the blood. (Taber’s 18th edn.p 870)

4)     High cholesterol in the blood (LDL level increases in the blood) _ Cholesterol is of two kinds _ HDL & LDL.  An elevated level of LDL in the blood is harmful to health, whereas a high level of HDL cholesterol is desirable. If the level of LDL in the blood increases, it causes hardening of the walls of the arteries leading to atherosclerosis, which later causes angina/ heart problems.

Alternate question : If heart patient is given rich fried food –Or A lot of fried food is eaten – this too will cause an increase in LDL in the blood.  See above para.

5)     Platelet count is reduced –Low platelet count will cause poor blood clotting, because platelets are one of the clotting factors. Normally platelets number from 2-3.5 lakhs per cu.mm. But when their count goes below 1½ lakhs, it is called as thrombocytopenia. The immediate effect in women is prolonged menstruation for a number of days etc. Reduction in platelets can happen in disorders of the bone marrow such as aplastic anemia or due to pernicious anemia or cancer.

Sometimes, due to a virus infection such as measles, the platelet count may go below 30,000 per cu.mm.  This leads to purpura, in which there are hemorrhages below the skin or in the gastro-intestinal tract or in the brain.

6)        WBC count goes up – An increase of WBC’s is a healthy sign and is an indication that there is an infection in some part of the body, and the body produces WBC’s in large quantities to fight the foreign antigens.  An increase in WBC count beyond 10,000 per cu.mm is known as leukocytosis.  This may accompany or happen after hemorrhage, extensive operations, malignant growth, pregnancy etc. It is present in most bacterial infections, but rarely in viral attacks, except in certain cases of diphtheria, pneumonia etc.  Eosinophilic leukocytosis means increase of Eosinophils.  This may occur in some allergies. (Taber’s 18th edn.p 1100)

In leukemia (blood cancer), there may be as many as 1 million WBC’s per cu.mm.  However the WBC’s are immature due to abnormal blood-forming organs.  Other blood cells are not formed in the bone marrow and so diseases associated with low RBC count and low platelet count occur. (see RW 9th ed. p.73)

7)        Hole in inter ventricular septum Or A hole in the heart between the two ventricles –

{ The wall which separates the left and right sides of the heart is called septum. Its function is to prevent mixing of pure and impure blood within the heart.  The part of the septum which is in-between the two ventricles is called as ventricular septum.  There is a valve-like structure in this septum, which remains open as long the baby is in the womb, so that the blood from the right ventricle can pass straight into the left ventricle (without passing through the lungs).  This is so because, till birth, the lungs of the fetus are non-functional and the baby’s heart contains only oxygenated blood.  After birth, when the baby cries loudly and well, its lungs start functioning and, in most of the children, the valve automatically closes, within 48 hours of birth.  If due to any reason, this valve remains open, it is known as hole in the heart. }

If a hole in the heart occurs, there will be mixing of oxygenated and de-oxygenated blood in the heart, due to which there will be less oxygen in the blood within the arteries.  In addition, when the left ventricle sends blood  to the aorta, this will cause some pressure on the right ventricle also.  Due to this, the right ventricle and its valves may also develop defects eventually, because they are not made for sustaining such pressures.

Based on long experience over the years, Guruji has established that children with hole in the heart have mothers who have folic acid deficiency during pregnancy.

Such children are unable to take part in normal exercises as running or walking even.  They experience weakness all the time.  Even the slightest exertion, such as fast walking, or crying loudly for some time causes their fingers and nails, and sometimes the whole body, to turn blue, due to which they are known as 'blue babies'.

Reproductive  System

1)      Umbilical cord is cut off before child cries after birth _ OR

Child does not cry immediately after birth –

The brain cannot survive for more than a couple of minutes without sufficient oxygen. Almost 20% of the body’s blood supply is used up by the brain for nourishment.  In the womb, the oxygen required by the brain of the fetus is supplied by the umbilical cord.  After delivery, this job is taken up by the lungs after they are properly functional.  For proper working of the lungs, the child has to cry loudly and properly.  If the umbilical cord is cut off before child cries properly, it will cause insufficient supply of oxygen to some areas of the brain.  This may cause death to certain neurons of the brain. It is Guruji’s firm belief that this is one of the main reasons for children to become mentally retarded,  or they have brain disorders such as cerebral palsy, fits etc.

Another important finding of Guruji is that children whose umbilical cord is cut off before they crid properly get easily frightened.  In childhood, they get startled even by the switch of a fan or tube light.  Such children should be given ‘Oxygen treatment’ at first, because their retardation is due to low supply of oxygen to the brain.  Later give NAN / M. Heparin  / 1,25 DCC / treatment for hypo-thyroidism etc

2)     Mother has folic acid deficiency during pregnancy – Folic acid is essential for maturation of RBC’s; and its deficiency causes megaloblastic anemia.

3)     Mother has high blood pressure during pregnancy _ Guyton 10th edn.p.951 : It is seen in around 4% of pregnant women that towards the end of their term, there is a sudden decrease in renal blood flow as well as glomerular filteration rate (GFR), while in normal women it is just the opposite.  In such women there is an excess of proteins in urine while their kidneys are unable to remove salt and water.  There is an increase in body weight, edema and high BP, accompanied by spasms in the arteries of the kidneys, brain and liver.  This is known as toxemia of pregnancy.  Guruji’s observation based on the experience of six decades is that several children who were mentally retarded had mothers who had high BP during pregnancy.  Hence he affirms that high BP in the mother during pregnancy is one of the causes for mental retardation in the fetus.

If a child comes to us whose mother had high BP during pregnancy, whatever be the problem, the first treatment which we should give to the child is :

Chole treatment, i.e., (10) Medulla (6) Gas  ‘I’ (3) Gal.  This treatment should be given for one or two months and later on we can give other treatments as necessary.

4)     Mother bleeds for more than 4 days/5 days  during menses –

The following is an important observation by Guruji. While questioning mothers of mentally retarded children, it has been found that a number of ladies said that – prior  to pregnancy – they had menses lasting for 5 days or more.  In addition, if her child has severe constipation since birth, it can be definitely concluded that one of the reasons for the child to develop mental retardation is hypo-thyroidism.  The reason for this argument is as follows :

The thyroid gland is responsible for the development of the brain of the fetus from conception until one year after birth.  If a child has hypo-thyroidism right from conception, how can his brain develop properly ?  So there is every possibility that such children may be mentally retarded.

Reasons and treatment

Excess bleeding during menses may be due to one of three reasons – acidosis, hypo-thyroidism or calcium deficiency. If a lady has calcium deficiency or hypo-thyroidism during pregnancy, it is obvious that the fetus will also have similar deficiencies. Depending on the cause   , different treatments are to be given.

a.    If the excess bleeding is due to acidosis, the lady will have pain in Mu°.  For this give ATF, (Acid treatment formula) (8) Pan (1) Gal (3) Mu° (1) acid (4) Ch. Only (6) Adr

b.    The following treatment is useful for treating hypo-thyroidism :

Ku-40 seconds  (6) Medulla   (4) Thyroid ‘ P’ (4) Thyroid

A main feature of hypo-thyroidism is :  severe constipation.

c.      If she has cramps along with excessive bleeding, then it is due to calcium deficiency.  To set this right, first give UDF treatment for a few days. Later, give :

I        (3) Gal  (7) Liv            II     1,25 DCC

(Earlier (6) Medulla was given to stimulate the hypothalamus.  Now its use has been avoided in certain treatments.)

5)        Body temperature goes below 97 ºF – Such a person may have cold hands and feet at all times.  The body’s energy will be spent in warming the body parts, due to which the person will feel weakness and constant fatigue.  This is one of the causes of infertility in women.

6)     Menopause – In menopause, the women’s monthly cycles slowly start becoming less and less in frequency and quantity; and the menses come to a stop within a couple of years.  This usually takes place around the age of 40 years. It is a natural process which indicates that the woman has come to the end of her child-bearing cycle.  The common symptoms are:- such women experience hot and cold flushes ( = their body suddenly feels excessively hot, and within a few minutes they feel so cold that they may even shiver), abdominal heaviness with pains, anger and irritability, tendency to cry without reason. Some women may have excessive bleeding till the menses eventually stop. Lack of estrogen leads to osteoporosis at a later age, in which the bones become so weak and porous that they are susceptible to fracture easily even with slight pressure.

7)     There is an injury or blow to the testes _ Obstruction of spermatic cord may cause a reduction in the quantity of ejaculated sperms, which may be one of the causes for infertility. If the injury is such as to cause atrophy of the testes, either the sperms may not be produced at all or it may cause production of defective sperms such as immotile sperms etc., due to which the man becomes incapable of siring a child.

Treatment :  For blow to testes : first give Injury treatment.

Later, give : (6) Raman x 6 treatments – for Peritoneum.

For development of reproductive organs: give New Genes formula and appropriate Heparin formula.

8)     Puberty sets in -  Puberty is the stage in life when both sexes become functionally capable of reproduction.  It will cause changes in their physical appearance as well as in their sex organs.  This normally happens at the age of 13 - 15 in boys and 9-16 in girls, ending in attainment of sexual maturity. In boys – there is an increase in height, weight, broadening of shoulders and in the size of the sex organs, along with a change in voice, growth of beard and mustache and muscular structure.  In girls a marked increase in growth takes place, accompanied by development of secondary sex characteristics, such as enlargement of breasts and uterus and onset of the menstrual cycle, to prepare the girl for womanhood and child-bearing. {  An onset of puberty is related to a decrease in secretion of the pineal gland. - Taber’s 18th edn.p 1596. }

9)      There are 3 sets of chromosome number 21. This causes a genetic disorder known as Down syndrome, referred to by laymen as ‘Mongolism’.

Such children are often mentally retarded. Some do not even respond when called. Most have severe constipation, and may pass smelly stools perhaps once in 4 - 5 days.  Almost all the children have yellow skin,  slanted eyes, a sunken nose-bridge, resembling the Chinese, which is why they are called as Mongol children.  Their wrist muscles are so weak, that the fingers can be bent backwards to touch the back of the hand.

Brain and Nervous System

1)     Dopamine is not synthesised in the body – the person may suffer from Parkinson’s disease.  His hands may shake or shiver violently, especially when at rest.  If he moves his hands purposefully, the tremors may reduce.

2)      There is a hematoma in the brain – An abnormal discharge of blood into the body spaces is called as hematoma. This may happen either due to accident, or as a result of surgery, or due to rupture of an artery after high BP.  The blood which has come out cannot re-enter into the arteries and exerts a pressure on the capillaries surrounding the area.  Hematoma is one of the main reasons for paralysis after an injury to the head or an accident.  In majority of the people, there is usually a loss of movement of the limbs of one side of the body.  If the hematoma occurs on the left side of the brain and if the attack is severe then the speech may also be affected.

3)     Part of brain is deprived of blood for 5 mins – This may occur at the time of delivery, either if the umbilical cord gets tightened around the neck, or if the cord has been cut off before the child cries loudly and properly.  If a part of the brain is deprived of blood for 5 minutes or more, it leads to death of several brain cells (neurons).  If this happens at birth, it may lead to mental retardation, fits, CP (cerebral palsy), or other disorders related to the brain.  If this happens to older people, it causes paralysis and even may lead to coma. The main treatment is Oxygen formula  and heparin.

4)     Alternate question :   Clot in any artery in the brain _ Causes poor blood supply to certain areas of the brain.  This will cause death of neurons in the area leading to infarct. If this happens in older people, it is the fore-runner for a variety of neuro-muscular disorders and is often the main cause for paralysis.  Rest of answer from above para.

Main treatments are: Oxygen formula, injury treatment and heparin.

KUB System

1)        Reduced blood supply to kidney – causes the kidneys to release the enzyme renin.   The liver produces a chemical called angiotensinogen, which normally circulates in the blood. When renin is produced by the kidneys, it converts angiotensinogen present in the blood into angiotensin #1.  This angiotensin #1 will travel in the blood and will reach the lungs.  Then lungs will release a chemical called ACE (Converting enzyme)  , which will convert angiotensin #1 into angiotensin #2.  Angiotensin #2 is a powerful vasoconstrictor due to which diastolic BP will rise.

2)      Urine colour is deep yellow – This may happen due to jaundice and is indicative of liver dys-function. Other reasons are : high fever or loss of water either through sweat or loose motions (diarrhea or dysentery).

3)     A stone is formed in the kidney –  Depending upon the location of the stone, pain will be felt in the back or in the front side. Some reasons are : sluggish function of the kidneys, insufficient consumption of water, high level of calcium in the blood etc.

The main symptoms are : difficulty in passing urine, burning sensation during urination and pain in the lower abdomen - the pain radiates from the region of the kidneys in the back to below the navel on the front side and later is felt anywhere along the urinary tract.  If the stone is in the urethra, the pain is unbearable.  If the stone gets lodged in the ureter, there may be bleeding, causing red color in the urine. This may sometimes lead to total stoppage of urination in which the person suffers excessive pain with profuse, copious sweating.

Formation of stones means insufficient filtration by the kidneys, due to which there is swelling in the body which appears early in the morning and disappears by noon.  This may eventually lead to kidney disorders such as nephritis or hydronephrosis.

4)      Creatinine level increases  - The normal level of creatinine in blood (serum) is 0.6 to 1.5 mgm per 100 ml.  If this level is greater than 1.5 mgm/100ml, it indicates malfunctioning of the kidneys, which is an indication of kidney failure or other kidney disorders.  Associated symptoms are : very little urine,  lack of appetite,  vomiting sensation, fevers and general weakness.  Swelling in several parts of the body - such as cheeks, face, hands or legs.  In the early stages this swelling is seen in the mornings on getting up from sleep, and the swelling goes away after a few hours.  In fact, this type of swelling is the very first indication of kidney mal-function. As the disease progresses, the skin in the area of the swelling beomes shiny, and the swelling stays on for longer periods of time.  The blood volume increases along with a corresponding raise in blood pressure.

Important symptoms of kidney failure :

White particles (albumin) are seen in urine.  There is an increase in blood urea.  But there is a low level of sodium, potassium and calcium, because the kidney tubules are unable to retain them and so they are lost through urine.

Normally, the level of hemoglobin in blood should be around 12; but because the kidneys do not produce erythropoietin, the hemoglobin level comes to 10 or even much lower.  As the disease progresses further, the urine starts coming in drops and the hemoglobin level goes down further, leading to blackening of the skin.

In extreme cases, the urine may totally stop, and the patient may go into coma because of acidosis.  And it may even lead to death within 6 hours.
